MLK Day of Service

This year, we would like to continue with last year’s efforts of volunteering for the national MLK Day of Service. We will participate with the University of Louisiana at Monroe (ULM) and Louisiana Delta Community College (LDCC) as they join forces to assist a local community agency. We will collect and provide a variety of items for the Community Soup Kitchen to replenish their stock. Some may be aware that the Community Soup Kitchen suffered damage to their building. Businesses and organizations in the community came together to help repair the building so this valuable agency would be able to continue to fulfill its mission of feeding and caring for the homeless and hungry. This list includes the following:

  • Toilet Tissue
  • Paper Towels
  • Napkins
  • Plastic drinking cups
  • Plastic Silverware (Spoons, Forks)
  • Foil Paper
  • Bottled Water
  • Plastic Gloves (kitchen)
  • Dish washing liquid
  • Hand soap
  • Condiments: Salt, pepper, ketchup, mustard, mayo, salad dressing, hot sauce
  • Tea bags, sugar, lemonade mix
  • Food: Lg bags of flour, meal, packaged tuna, fruit, crackers, snacks, juices

We are asking all faculty, staff, students, and parents to join us in this initiative and donate the requested items between now and January 18th.

Students who bring thee (3) items by Monday, January 18th will receive a free dress pass. The date for free dress will be determined by Mrs. Mullins.

On the MLK Day of ServiceJanuary 21st, the items will be transported to the Monroe campus of LDCC, 7500 Millhaven Road, Conference Room B, for sorting and packing the collected items from 9:30 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. The items will be loaded and delivered to the Community Soup Kitchen after packaging.

Our student council will help with the sorting and packing efforts at LDCC from 9:30 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. Students, faculty, and parents are encouraged to come out and help sort, too!

If you have any questions about Lee’s efforts in the 2018 MLK Day of Service, please contact Jesse Flunder.
